Are the LSU Tigers an "overrated" team entering the 2025 college football season?

247Sports seems to think so.

The national sports media outlet labeled LSU as one of the teams that's being overrated in early top 25 college football polls.

LSU is ranked at No. 12 in 247Sports' early top 25 rankings for the 2025 season.

From 247Sports: Yahoo Sports was the only publication which ranked LSU lower (No. 22) than 247Sports with eight other placing the Tigers inside the top 10, including Athlon Sports at No. 4. LSU has two top 10 finishes under Brian Kelly, both of those coming with former first-rounder and Heisman winner Jayden Daniels at quarterback. LSU showed minimal 2024 improvements defensively and lost four games in the regular season to fall short of playoff expectations. Brian Kelly essentially guaranteed a playoff appearance in 2025 with a top-end portal class, so the pressure's on.

There's certainly a lot of pressure on Brian Kelly and the Tigers in 2025.

Kelly left Notre Dame a few years ago because he thought he had a better shot at winning a national championship at Notre Dame (which is probably true considering the Tigers' previous three coaches — Ed Orgeron, Les Miles, and Nick Saban — all won national championships in Baton Rouge).

In three seasons, though, Kelly has yet to lead LSU to the College Football Playoff. After watching Notre Dame play for the national championship this past season, there's undoubtedly pressure on Kelly to get the Tigers to playoff. And if he doesn't, the noise in Baton Rouge will start to get loud next winter.

LSU might be wise to take an "us against the world" approach to the 2025 season.
