When former Oklahoma wide receiver Nic Anderson ended up with head coach Brian Kelly and the LSU Tigers last offseason, expectations were extremely high for what the massive wideout would accomplish in Baton Rouge.

Along with former Kentucky speedster Barion Brown, that duo was expected to put up some massive numbers with quarterback Garrett Nussmeier. The transfer portal appeared to be very good for the Tigers at the time.

Unfortunately for the Tiger fanbase, last season did not live up to expectations. It was as close to a disaster as you can get, as was the individual season for Anderson. The former Sooner star managed just 12 receptions for 106 yards and two touchdowns, averaging 8.8 yards per reception. For what feels like the fourth season in a row, Anderson was compromised due to injury.

Nic Anderson predicted to land with SEC rival in the transfer portal

With head coach Lane Kiffin and the new staff coming in, it wasn’t overly surprising to see Anderson enter the portal again. The talent has never been a question, but his chances to tap into his ceiling are starting to run short. It does appear, however, that Anderson will have one more chance in the SEC for an awesome redemption story. Pete Nakos of On3 put in a prediction for Anderson to land with the Kentucky Wildcats this week.

While Kentucky is a team in transition, new head coach Will Stein is regarded as one of the best offensive minds in all of college football. If Anderson stays healthy (a big if), he has a chance to put together a huge year in 2026.

Nic Anderson’s career background

When Anderson was coming out of Katy (Texas) High School, the recruiting rankings for him were all over the place. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Anderson finished ranked as the No. 243 overall player, the No. 38 wide receiver, and the No. 38 player from the state of Texas in the 2022 recruiting class. The brother of former Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson, those family ties eventually led the talented wideout to sign with the Sooners.

The 6-4, 208-pound pass catcher was not without some impressive options coming out of high school. Anderson held a long list of offers, including Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Oregon, Texas, Michigan, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, Miami, Texas A&M, Florida State, Auburn, TCU, Missouri, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Arkansas, Houston, Maryland, Kansas, Cal, and Stanford, among others.

During Anderson’s final season at Katy High School, he led the talented team in receiving. In nine games, the wideout hauled in 29 receptions for 529 yards and five touchdowns, an average of 18.2 yards per reception.

When the Texas native has been healthy during his college career, he has moments of brilliance. In just 27 games that Anderson has been available for in four seasons, he has managed to haul in 50 receptions for 904 yards and 12 touchdowns. Anderson’s finest season came in 2023 with Oklahoma, where he had nearly 800 yards receiving and 10 scores through the air.
