Miami Hurricanes coach gets fans fired up on social media with a comparison to program legend that they hope turns out to be true
The biggest new face on the roster will be looking to build on the legacy of notable number
The Miami Hurricanes had a run of success with QB Ken Dorsey under center that few college programs have experienced from 2000-02. Miami fans are hoping that another talented QB in his old jersey number can have a special season for the Canes in 2025.
Miami offensive line coach Alex Mirabal put up a post on Twitter/X on Tuesday morning of Dorsey side by side with Carson Beck. Both are wearing the #11 jersey, and Mirabal simply put “#”.
Dorsey had one of the greatest careers in not just Miami history, but also college football history. The former Miami signal caller took over in 1999, and from 2000-02, he took Miami to a 38-2 record as a starting QB. Had it not been for an early season loss to Washington early in the 2000 season – one which kept Miami out of BCS national title game in controversial fashion over an FSU team they beat – then the Hurricanes very well could have had back-to-back titles and Dorsey a clean record until the 2003 Fiesta Bowl, which Miami lost in heartbreaking (and controversial) fashion to Ohio State 31-24 in double overtime.
Beck comes in accomplished himself, but obviously not as high as Dorsey’s list of achievements. The starting QB for the Georgia Bulldogs in 2023-24, Beck led the Dawgs to the SEC title game in both years, winning in 2024 (although he left the game with an injury). He compiled a 24-3 record as a starter in Athens.
Obviously, while Miami is talented, the 2000-02 teams were among the most talented in the history of the sport. So the comparison isn’t particularly fair for Beck. But while Mirabal’s post has drawn praise from most Miami fans in response, people aren’t asking him to be Dorsey. They’re simply asking him to help the program take another big step forward with #11 on his chest. We’ll see soon enough if he can.
