It's been a record-setting year for the Miami Hurricanes' offense, and that trend continued on Saturday afternoon at Hard Rock Stadium during the Canes' 42-14 win over Wake Forest.

QB Cam Ward completed 27 of 38 attempts for 280 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception.  He also added a rushing score in the Canes' 22-point fourth quarter.

However, one of Ward's first half completions – a 12-yarder to RB Damien Martinez in the second quarter – turned out to be a particularly special one, as he ended up passing Miami Hurricanes legend and former Cleveland Browns standout Bernie Kosar for the most passing yards in a single season in school history.

Kosar offered his congratulations to Ward after the latter set the new school mark.

Kosar's previous record of 3642 yards stood for four decades.  The UM Hall of Fame inductee led the Hurricanes to their first national championship in 1983 and followed that up with a record-setting performance in 1984.  Although Kosar and the Miami passing game lit up the scoreboard, the Canes struggled to an 8-5 season that ended with a 39-37 loss to UCLA in the Fiesta Bowl.

However, if there was going to be a season to break it, this is as good of a season to do it in.  Miami's offense has led the country in points per game and Cam Ward has put himself in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy as the Canes have sat in the top 10 for most of the season.

The record is the second of the year for Ward, who has 3774 passing yards and 34 passing touchdowns.  He set a new record for touchdown passes earlier this year when he passed Steve Walsh's mark of 29 set in 1988.

Now, he'll look to help Miami reach the ACC title game for the first time since 2017 and claim their first ACC title and college football playoff spot ever. And if that happens, Ward will likely see himself as a finalist for the biggest award in all of college sports – the Heisman Trophy.
