Cam Ward had one heck of a season in 2024 for the Miami Hurricanes. One that earned him plenty of accolades, including the Davey O'Brien Award and a trip to New York as a Heisman Trophy finalist, the school's first finalist in over 30 years.
However, the honors didn't stop with the conclusion of the season. On Wednesday, Ward was named the winner of the Manning Award for the nation's top quarterback.
The award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl and has been handed out to the top quarterback in the nation for the last 21 years. It was named in honor of Archie, Eli, and Peyton Manning and, it's recognized as the only award to consider postseason performance in its considerations. The voters for the award are the Mannings as well as nationwide media.
Ward shattered University of Miami and national records in 2024. He set the single-season Miami record for completion percentage (67.2%) passing yards (4313) and passing touchdowns (39), the latter of which also led the nation. He also set the division I career record for passing touchdowns with 158, passing Case Keenum during the Canes' 42-41 loss in the Pop Tarts Bowl.
Ward should end up being one of the first players taken in the upcoming NFL Draft. He will become the first Miami QB to be taken in the first round since Vinny Testaverde was taken with the #1 overall pick in the 1987 draft.
