Miami Hurricanes’ playoff chances could be getting a small bump for something they have nothing to do with
Miami fans will be scoreboard watching on Saturday afternoon.
The Miami Hurricanes are in a bit of a tough spot when it comes to the College Football Playoff. At 8-2 and No. 13 in the latest rankings, they have a handful of teams between them and a potential at large spot. Specifically, they’d have to climb up to No. 10 in order to make the field as an at large selection.
While some teams ahead of them have relative layups left to finish the season, particularly Notre Dame (Syracuse, at Stanford), some have true challenges left, and that includes Oklahoma, who checked at No. 8 in the rankings after upsetting Alabama last weekend.
The 8-2 Sooners host Missouri on Saturday in Norman and finish with LSU, and the task could be getting a bit tougher for Oklahoma this week with the possible return of the Tigers’ starting quarterback. Per ESPN college football insider Pete Thamel, Beau Pribula is likely to play against the Sooners.
Sooners will likely have to face Missouri with starting quarterback Beau Pribula
Missouri lost Pribula back on October 25 when he suffered an ankle injury when he was tackled and rolled up by a Vanderbilt defender during the Tigers’ 17-10 loss in Nashville. His loss was felt the next week, when Missouri generated just 17 points in a 38-17 loss to Texas A&M to end their playoff hopes.
Oklahoma’s defense is one of the best in the country, so the importance of having Pribula back for Missouri to have a legit chance to win cannot be understated.
There are a number of games across the country that Miami fans should have their eyes on for potential help for their at large playoff hopes – including No. 11 BYU at Cincinnati and Kansas State at No. 12 Utah – but perhaps the most likely spot for an upset by a team inside the current projected field could be in Norman on Saturday. With the Canes and Virginia Tech Hokies both playing at noon, the Mizzou-OU game could be the one a lot of Miami fans are flipping over to during commercial breaks.
