Brace yourself as you're about to feel old. Former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick is now the head coach of Norfolk State of the FCS, and he's looking to land Donovan McNabb Jr. for his program.
McNabb Jr., the son of fellow former Eagles star quarterback Donovan McNabb, is a 2027 wide receiver recruit getting more attention as spring efforts increase. Already with offers from Arizona, Iowa State, Florida Atlantic, and a few other FCS schools, Syracuse has now gotten involved.
The Orange's offer is significant because McNabb Sr. started his tremendous legacy with the program. McNabb threw for 8,389 yards and 77 touchdowns from 1995 to 1998, landing fifth in the Heisman Trophy race in 1998. He won three straight Big East Offensive Player of the Year Awards.
The Eagles then selected McNabb as second overall in the 1999 NFL Draft, and he produced a very good career with the franchise. It'd seem almost like a layup for McNabb Jr. to continue the family legacy with Syracuse, but Sr. and Vick are good friends.
Norfolk State swung big on Vick as the head coach and is looking to make a splash. McNabb Jr. is 6 feet tall and 170 pounds but only produced nine catches for 83 yards and one score last year. However, he's been excellent at off-season camps, and the connection to his father is promising.
It'd be fascinating if McNabb Jr. opted for either school. Of course, he could find greener pastures elsewhere, but the storyline of going to Syracuse or with Vick is especially juicy.
