Criminal charges brought against Michigan HC Sherrone Moore revealed following arraignment for the fired Wolverines coach
We now know the details of what criminal charges former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore faces
On Wednesday, one of the most shocking stories of the college football year (and perhaps in recent memory) broke, as the Michigan Wolverines fired head coach Sherrone Moore. Hours later, it was revealed Moore was taken into police custody and booked in jail Wednesday evening.
As reported by Tony Paul of the Detroit News and several others, more and more information surrounding the incident has been revealed. The police were called for an alleged assault at 4:10 p.m. Eastern, which was before Moore’s firing was announced. Moore was booked for an “assault investigation” that night.
Moore was arraigned in court on Friday, and the charges Moore is facing have been formally released to the public.
Sherrone Moore could face significant jail time
The charges against Moore are as follows:
- “Home Invasion in the third degree (Felony): for allegedly unlawfully entering the victim’s residence. Home Invasion in the third degree is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $2,000 fine.
- Stalking (Misdemeanor): for allegedly engaging in a willful course of conduct involving repeated or continuing harassment of the victim. Stalking is a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and a $1,000 fine.
- Breaking and Entering or Entering Without Breaking (Misdemeanor): for allegedly unlawfully entering the dwelling of a victim with whom Mr. Moore had a dating relationship. A violation of this statute is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine.”
If he is found guilty of all three charges, Moore could face sentences totaling six years, 90 days in jail, and/or $3,500 in fines. Additionally, stalking, according to Michigan state law, carries a penalty of “no less than 5 years” of probation. If Moore is found guilty on that charge, he would also carry that probation around, meaning he would be placed under official supervision for a period of no less than five years.
