The buzz around Michigan has been loud, thanks to the imminent arrival of elite five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood, who represents the future of the Wolverines' program.

I don't think any recruit has generated as much intrigue and excitement as Underwood has done for the Michigan program. The anticipation isn't just in Ann Arbor, however. National analysts are also eager to see his impact with the team.

On3 wrote up Underwood as an instant impact playmaker for the Wolverines, even even though he might not be Michigan's starting quarterback in 2025.

"Bryce Underwood was the center of the biggest recruiting news of the 2025 cycle, when he flipped from LSU to Michigan in late November. On3’s No. 1 overall prospect enters an offense at Michigan that saw three different quarterbacks start games and finish 130th nationally in passing yards (133.6 yards per game). Given Underwood’s immense talent, recruiting pedigree, and historic NIL deal, it’s safe to project him to see the field as a true freshman. Michigan is also bringing in Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene from the Transfer Portal. The Five-Star Plus+ prospect provides an instant infusion of talent into Michigan’s quarterback room. At 6-foot-4, 215 pounds with an elite combination of arm talent and athleticism, Underwood is the most physically gifted quarterback prospect in the 2025 cycle. On top of the natural traits, he’s a highly accomplished high school signal caller, leading his Belleville (Mich.) High team to a 49-4 record and two state titles, while re-writing the state of Michigan record books along the way. The talent level and established track record has Underwood positioned to succeed early on in his college career."

Sherrone Moore and Michigan's coaching staff were pretty adamant in pursuing a veteran quarterback in the transfer portal in order to help smooth out Underwood's transition into college football.

Michigan hired Chip Lindsey to run an easy, simplified college scheme and brought in Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene, who Lindsey coached at UCF, to help Underwood's adjustment and hit the ground running.

Ideally, it sounds like the Wolverines don't want to start Underwood at all as a freshman. However, it might be too difficult to keep him off the field, given his talent level and the excitement around his name. With early games against Oklahoma, Nebraska, and USC on the slate, there might be too much pressure to start Underwood on an untalented offense.

Regardless, the future of Michigan seems bright with Underwood in the Maize and Blue.
