It's always hard to hear when football players (or anyone for that matter) is arrested for assault, but this time the news is even more surprising and disappointing than usual. Former Michigan Wolverines All-American and current New England Patriots star defensive back Jabrill Peppers was reportedly arrested on Saturday morning on several concerning charges.

NBC Boston reported early on Monday that Peppers was arrested and will be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a class "b" substance. That class "b" substance was later reported to be cocaine.

There was apparently an altercation between two people (Peppers assumed to be one of them) that led to the original call to the police. The victim was reportedly treated on site by medical professionals in some capacity, but there has not been an update on their status as of yet.

This news comes as a major surprise to many seeing as Jabrill Peppers has no significant record of engaging in any behavior like this. Dating back to his time at Michigan he was a class act team captain with the Wolverines who won the 2016 Paul Hornung Award for being the most versatile player in all of college football.

Since being drafted to the NFL, Peppers has had an incredibly successful career and as of this writing is actually a team captain with the New England Patriots as well. He's logged nearly 500 career tackles over eight NFL seasons and has largely been considered a solid pro player throughout his entire career. Hearing that he would resort to such violence among other charges is disappointing, to say the least.

Peppers had largely stayed healthy throughout much of his career, but missed two games late last season and was ruled inactive for this past week's matchup due to a shoulder injury that he was battling through. Hopefully Peppers can bounce back from both his off-field decisions and his injuries getting the help that he needs so that he never does anything like this ever again.
