The college football world was shaken last week with an explosive story surrounding former Michigan Wolverines head coach Sherrone Moore. News broke that the Wolverines were firing Moore on Wednesday afternoon, but by Wednesday evening, it was reported that Moore was in police custody.

More and more news has been released over time, including the catalyst of the story and the (current) charges facing Moore. However, the latest news reported by The Athletic could add another layer to this explosive story, and would help explain why Michigan was so decisive in sending Moore packing.

Sherrone Moore could be facing even further criminal charges

After being arraigned on Friday, a list of charges Moore was facing was released to the public. Those charges include home invasion, stalking, and breaking and entering. According to The Athletic in a story released Wednesday, Moore could allegedly be faced with even more severe charges in the near future.

According to a detective assigned to the case in sworn testimony prior to Moore’s hearing last Friday, the female staffer with whom Moore had a relationship and her lawyer provided information to police that Moore had a “long history of domestic violence” during their relationship. At the time of Moore’s arrest, they did not have sufficient evidence to add any other sort of charges to Moore.

The Athletic has reported that the prosecutor leading the case said the case against Moore is in “active investigation” and charges could be added or amended based on new evidence. However, they have “yet to receive any request for charges for any previous incidents” surrounding the case.

The details surrounding all of this are murky, and that uncertainty is fueling speculation. It could be that this alleged evidence was part of what the female staffer presented to Michigan’s administration, which hastened their decision to fire Moore. As of Wednesday evening, no further charges have been added to Moore’s case, but, as previously reported, that could change as more evidence comes to light.

The police investigation into this case is still gathering any potential evidence before any charges can proceed. We will update this story as more details emerge.
