The Michigan Wolverines men’s basketball team set to play for a national championship on Monday night thanks to a blowout 91-73 win over the Arizona Wildcats in the Final Four.

Michigan is set to play UConn on Monday night and Dusty May’s program is 36-3 on the season and looks to be peaking at the right time. Reaching the final game was just one part of the good news to celebrate from Saturday night.

Michigan gets a massive recruiting win the same night they beat Arizona

During Saturday night’s game, Michigan picked up a commitment from five-star Sierra Canyon (CA) 2026 SG Brandon McCoy Jr., the No. 14-ranked player in the class of 2026, per 247 Sports’ composite rankings. McCoy made his commitment announcement on the Fab Five alternate broadcast of the game.

Landing McCoy gives Michigan its sixth incoming freshman overall with Quinn Costello, Joseph Hartman, Malachi Brown and Marcus Moller, and 2027 reclass Lincoln Cosby. McCoy is a 6-foot-5 two guard who should push to start right away for what will be another very talented Michigan team for the 2025-2026 season.

“Overall, he is a physically gifted guard who plays with a motor, imposes his will on the game on both ends of the floor, and has room for future growth with the progression of his shooting and total guard skills.”

McCoy chose Michigan over the likes of Alabama, Arkansas, and Miami as one of the top uncommitted players in the country. The star 2026 guard recently stood out as one of the very best high school seniors in the sport at the McDonald’s All-American game.

Michigan will have some transfer decisions to make when the portal opens on April 7, just a day after the title game. Adding a player with one-and-done talent in McCoy into the mix is a massive win for the program — and a high-profile recruiting win for May’s resume.
