Former USC Trojans quarterback Miller Moss entered the transfer portal Monday and immediately became linked to multiple schools.

Chief among them was the Michigan Wolverines, who joined Auburn, Iowa, and Louisville on Moss's initial list of interested schools.

This might have come as a surprise for many after their recent flip of elite five-star Bryce Underwood, but the staff has said they wanted a veteran bridge quarterback for Underwood so he isn't immediately starting as a freshman.

The Wolverines have already lost Jack Tuttle to a medical retirement and Davis Warren will be graduating, leaving perhaps just Alex Orji in the quarterback room with Underwood next season.

Michigan got an up-close glimpse at Moss in a 27-24 victory in Ann Arbor at the beginning of the season. Moss went 28-for-51 for 283 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception. He led a tremendous second-half comeback that would have won USC the game were it not for an elite Kalel Mullings performance at the end.

Moss started the first 9 games of the year for the Trojans, throwing for 2,555 yards with 18 touchdowns and 9 interceptions while completing 64.4 of his passes. He was benched as the Trojans went 4-5 in favor of Jayden Maiava.

In my opinion, Moss got benched not because he was playing poorly, rather, he just wasn't enough of a playmaker to mask all of USC's problems.

Michigan doesn't need that. What they do need for next season and for Bryce Underwood's development is a smart veteran who is going to reliably distribute the ball and not commit frequent turnovers. He can come in and show Underwood the ropes, be enough in the passing game to keep Michigan in games and let Underwood grow and get comfortable with the playbook and develop behind the scenes.

This would also be a great fresh start for Moss. He's far from a bad collegiate quarterback. His film has plenty of quality throws that Michigan simply didn't get from their quarterback room this season. With Moss entering as a graduate transfer, he has just one more year to put up quality film for NFL scouts, and Michigan would be a great spot for him to do so.

There's a good chance he could end the season with plenty of solid grades and earn an invite to the Senior Bowl by the end of the year. He won't bring the high-end plays that J.J. McCarthy had with the Wolverines, but his floor is significantly higher than a lot of other Michigan quarterbacks in recent memory.

Keep an eye on this one as time goes on.
