The Michigan Wolverines continue to post win after win on the recruiting trail this spring as Sherrone Moore and his staff are working hard to maintain momentum, building around five star quarterback Bryce Underwood.

Since late February the Wolverines have already locked in four high pedigree recruits for their 2026 recruiting class, and this week they've added a critical offensive weapon for the future in Matt Ludwig, a tight end from Billings, Montana.

Matt Ludwig, Four Star TE Recruit

Matt Ludwig is a Top 250 recruit in the nation and a truly rare four star from the state of Montana. Ludwig is a 6'5", 240-pound tight end who can play and win from any pre-snap position. He had been rising quickly up recruiting boards dating back to last spring, garnering nearly 30 different FBS scholarship offers, but finally committed to Michigan on Tuesday.

Matt Ludwig is a high-cut ripped tight end prospect who wins with both strength and surprising speed. He was quite often deployed as a slot and outside wide receiver last season on top of his more in-line and attached tight end duties, proving he could win in a variety of ways.

That's the perfect fit for a Michigan tight end as the team loves to deploy the position all over their formations. Colston Loveland was used in every spot imaginable last season as the team got creative with scheming him open and forcing targets his way. Ludwig could fit that mold when the time comes.

Yes, Michigan still has young weapons like Marlin Klein and Hogan Hansen who should produce just fine this year and next, but Ludwig's true do-everything ability may earn him early snaps. The team needs to figure out who will replace fullback-tight-end hybrid Max Bredeson after this season, so there are multiple paths for Ludwig to follow if he wants to earn a role right away in 2026.

Sherrone Moore and company still have a lot of work to do on recruiting next year, but getting this kind of talent with Ludwig who can potentially do anything the offense needs should prove to be a crucial acquisition.
