The Michigan Wolverines have been eagerly awaiting the return of one of their best playmakers for years. After an injury over the offseason in 2024 knocked him out for the entire season, he has slowly been working his way back to returning to the lineup but has yet to make his 2025 debut for the Wolverines.

However, that time is upon us now. Interim head coach Biff Poggi announced Monday that All-American safety Rod Moore will return to play this week when Michigan takes on the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

Moore was a key cog in Michigan’s national title run in 2023 and is now ready to help the Wolverines make another potential playoff run in 2025.

Rod Moore’s Debut Couldn’t Come At A Better Time

Moore’s return to play is a huge blessing for the Wolverines, as they are set to begin conference play and make a run at the postseason. Even though he likely won’t be 100% for a few games, just having him in the lineup will surely solve some of Michigan’s biggest issues defensively that have cropped up this season, particularly against Oklahoma.

The Wolverines have battled frequent miscommunication errors in both 2024 and 2025, creating advantages that numerous offenses have exploited across both seasons. They have had troubles dealing with motion and aligning against up-tempo offenses. Moore’s acumen and leadership will go a long way in fixing those problems. Poggi spoke on this exact impact this week when discussing Moore’s return.

“Rod has maybe one of the highest football IQs in the building. Now, of course there’s rust to knock off, right? But we’ll try not to put him in situations where we’ll manage reps and all those kinds of things because listen — it’s a marathon, not a sprint. We don’t ever want to put him in a situation that’s bad for him, certainly, physically or emotionally or mentally. But I’ve got to tell you something. If you had to take a guy that hadn’t played a while and throw him in a game, it’d be that dude.”

Michigan will need Moore’s presence to contain some of the offenses they will take on throughout the season, with Nebraska, USC, and Washington right around the corner.
