Michigan logged a huge Big Ten win on Saturday over the Washington Huskies as Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines moved to 5-2 on the season. Now Michigan gets a nice soft run of four games ahead of the only matchup that matters against Ohio State. Can they keep winning?

The obvious answer is yes, considering how well Michigan played against the Huskies this weekend. However, it couldn’t hurt to see more development from all the young players on the roster. When asked about the youth on this 2025 Michigan team, coach Moore couldn’t help but emphasize just how wildly impressive the youngest players on the youngest team in the Big Ten have been.

Michigan has youngest roster in Big Ten and keeps winning

It’s no secret that the Michigan Wolverines are relying on a ton of youth this season, but it’s crazy to think just how many freshman and redshirt freshman as seeing a ton of action (and success so far). It hasn’t been perfect, and the Wolverines have struggled with some growing pains against Oklahoma and USC, but coach Moore couldn’t help but brag on his young quarterback after the game:

“There was one motion that we thought [Bryce Underwood] could have gotten, but besides that I think [today’s game] was pretty clean, especially throwing the football, decision-making, thought process. There’s pieces [to the game] that make you want more, and there’s a high standard for him. He has a high standard for himself. We’re going to keep pushing him to to reach that standard. I think for this game was as clean as he’s played. You look at the stats. He was 21-27, what a 77% completion percent? Two touchdowns. He continues to take care of the football which is huge, especially as a true freshman. He’s doing everything on the field, off the field, to reach that potential, and he just continues to do it, and I’m proud of him.”

Saturday’s win over Washington was easily Bryce Underwood’s most complete game. He managed things perfectly, limited penalties, completed nearly 80% of his passes, and made some ridiculous throws to true freshman breakout star Andrew Marsh and company (as you can see in the post below).

Underwood just keeps getting better every single week. And it’s not just because of his own development, although that much is obvious. The team is growing around him. They might be quite inexperienced, even now, but that’s exactly why each and every week is so important this fall. As this young group gels together even further, the stacked roster of freshman starters could be exactly what Michigan needs to go far into the postseason this season.

Sherrone Moore talked through just how many starters and key contributors Michigan is leaning on who are still freshman after the game, and the numbers are astounding compared to most Big Ten teams:

“It’s huge. I remember watching the film on Sunday evening, or whatever it was, and looking on the field of the USC game on offense we had a redshirt freshman right guard, redshirt freshman right tackle, a true freshman quarterback, true freshman receiver, and a redshirt freshman running back. We’re the youngest team in the Big Ten. So, for us it’s the experience of them playing football and keep doing it is what we need. They’re all dependable. Obviously guys have done a really good job recruiting the right players and people in the program. We’ve got to keep doing it to evolve the program to where we want to go.”

Half of the starting offense right now are freshman or redshirt freshman players for Michigan. The Wolverines have done a remarkable job of recruiting amid the transition from Jim Harbaugh to Sherrone Moore and it’s showing. Coach Moore is correct. The team needs to keep that up so their depth gets a bit better in future seasons, but the young weapons on this roster could make or break not just the future, but this season’s underrated upside. If this team continues looking more like vintage Michigan, the sky is the limit for this year’s squad.
