Michigan Wolverines recruiting has been on fire for the last month, racking up nearly a dozen commitments, now ranking well inside the top ten 2026 classes in the nation. Sherrone Moore and company were due for a loss on the recruiting trail and that's exactly what they got on Saturday.

However, the good news is that the loss didn't really come as a surprise, and Michigan immediately bounced back with an upgrade at the same position.

Brody Jennings, Four Star Cornerback Flips from Michigan to Miami

Brody Jennings, a four star cornerback from Florida, had been committed to Michigan since last summer, but the 2026 recruiting class had gone through a lot of changes since then. Despite his commitment to the Wolverines, Jennings had garnered 15 more scholarship offers from top programs around the country since then.

Miami–Jennings' in-state favorite–offered him this January, and ever since there had been some worry that he may flip that way. He took his official visit with the Hurricanes, as well as a handful of other top programs (including Auburn, Florida State, Florida, and Michigan), in May and June. Then this weekend he finally made the decision to flip to Miami.

Dorian Barney, Four Star Cornerback Commits to Michigan Wolverines

While it never feels good to fans to lose a long-time commit, that pain of loss didn't last for long.

Dorian Barney, an even higher rated cornerback (and likely far superior player to Jennings) had been trending towards Michigan for the last few weeks, but he finally made his announcement and commitment to the Wolverines just hours after Jennings flipped.

Barney chose the Wolverines over Big Ten rival Penn State, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M following his recent visit with the Wolverines near the end of June (his final official).

For those unfamiliar with his game, Barney plays quite similar to Will Johnson. He's a shutdown outside cornerback that wins with length, aggression, and physicality (as you can see in some of his plays in post below).

Now that Jennings has decommitted, Barney is the new face of the secondary in the 2026 recruiting class for Michigan.

Sherrone Moore and his staff will likely still continue pursuing other cornerbacks as the fall approaches, but Barney is a great foundation to build upon to hopefully one day replace the impact of Will Johnson.
