The Michigan Wolverines and head coach Sherrone Moore already have a top ten recruiting class lined up for the 2026 cycle. They're closing in on a number of blue chip recruits as well. Now they're just a few short weeks away from potentially landing their most important five star recruiting target of the entire year.

Savion Hiter, Five Star RB set to commit August 19th

Five star running back Savion Hiter has been the number one target for Michigan recruiting all offseason as the Wolverines compete against major SEC and B1G schools like bitter rival Ohio State, Georgia, and Tennessee.

Hiter, the number one running back in the country and consensus top ten player in the nation, shared this week that he'll be announcing his commitment on August 19th. Can the Michigan Wolverines actually seal the deal here?

For several weeks now recruiting experts around the country have continued to echo one thing when it comes to Savion Hiter's recruitment: it's likely down to Michigan and Tennessee.

Initially when rumors of these two most likely finalists started circulating earlier this summer Hiter himself chimed in. He didn't exactly confirm or deny the noise, but it seemed he wasn't exactly a fan of the conjecture saying, "Where does this stuff come from when I've done 0 interviews?"

However, since that post from Hiter, the noise hasn't slowed down on momentum leaning towards Michigan and Tennessee. Yes, Ohio State and Georgia are still official finalists, but Michigan still feels like they're in a good spot here down the stretch.

Five star QB Bryce Underwood has been apparently heavily involved in Hiter's recruitment, and even noted this week via Instagram that the running back will be announcing his commitment on Underwood's birthday. Hiter committing to Michigan, joining Underwood in the Wolverines backfield would be the perfect birthday present for the entire program.

Michigan has sent five running backs on to be selected in the last five NFL Drafts already. Justice Haynes (Alabama transfer) is projected to be an early selection in 2026. Jordan Marshall starred as a true freshman in the bowl game last season and is already on track to be a special talent too.

Hopefully Savion Hiter joins the incredible rising legacy of elite Michigan running backs here soon. If he does there should certainly be early opportunity to play alongside Jordan Marshall, giving the Wolverines one of the best one-two punches in the nation for 2026 and beyond.
