The Michigan Wolverines recruiting momentum for their 2026 recruiting class has finally begun picking up in the last month as official visits season is approaching. Now Sherrone Moore and company have entered the "finalist" stage with yet another top tier defensive recruit as the most important month in recruiting is set to kick off.
Blake Stewart, Four Star Safety Recruit
Blake Stewart, a four star safety recruit from Georgia, has risen swiftly from completely overlooked and unrated recruit to Top 300 player in the nation for the 2026 class. He started off strong as a freshman, producing with varsity right away, but then his sophomore season was derailed by injury. Still, some of the best recruiting programs offered him early, recognizing the potential he flashed.
After he posted an absurdly productive 80-tackle junior season last fall, including a number of wildly impressive passes defended, almost every major program pulled the trigger and shot him a scholarship offer as he flew up recruiting rankings boards everywhere.
Michigan was one of those programs that joined the fold late, only offering him this January, but despite holding more than 40 FBS scholarship offers Stewart officially has the Wolverines listed among his top schools. He's also officially visiting Michigan for his final in-person visit on the weekend of June 20th.
Blake Stewart had his hands full this spring sorting through which schools to pick with unofficial visits, but certainly made it a point to prioritize Michigan, and when he did almost immediately included them among his top options list in March.
Stewart likely loves the early path to playing time and impressive track record of Michigan sending defensive backs to the NFL. Michigan has logged four straight years with one of their defensive backs getting selected inside the first 60 picks of the NFL Draft.
All-Big Ten Conference talent Rod Moore is returning to Michigan to dominate at the safety position for one more year this season, but beyond him there are major question marks at the position in the near future. Both Makari Paige and Quinten Johnson are now gone from last year's team. Brandyn Hillman should step up alongside Rod Moore, but he could be gone in 2026 with a good showing this fall too.
Sherrone Moore has already done a good job recruiting for the offensive side of the ball with his 2026 recruiting class to help bolster the roster around five star QB Bryce Underwood, but only has two defensive recruits locked up and committed so far (as of this writing). Sealing the deal with Stewart would be a huge step towards solidifying a secondary that just lost star cornerback Will Johnson and most of their successful defensive backs this offseason.
