The Michigan Wolverines ended the 2024 season on a high note, upsetting both the Ohio State Buckeyes and Alabama Crimson Tide on the field while also pulling in their highest-ranked recruiting class ever.

That momentum is still going as the Wolverines are looking to seal the deal with yet another elite recruit to add to their top five 2025 recruiting class.

Michigan will host five-star Denton (Texas) Ryan offensive tackle Ty Haywood for an official visit this weekend. If he commits, Haywood would be the third five-star recruit the Wolverines have pulled in this year, alongside quarterback Bryce Underwood and offensive tackle Andrew Babalola.

Haywood was an Alabama commit for months, but backed off of his commitment in this week. The expectation has been for Haywood to decide on National Signing Day in February. However, that decision timeline could certainly shift if Michigan checks all the boxes this weekend.

This would be a coup for the Wolverines to pull off. The offensive line this past season was the worst I've seen play for Michigan in some time, barely offering push in the run game and getting picked on often in pass protection.

However, Michigan is smartly figuring out that the best way to help Bryce Underwood's development is to build up the trenches around him. With Babalola manning one side and Haywood manning the other, that would be Michigan's most talented tackle duo in some time. That's not an exaggeration either, both of these players would be Michigan's highest-ranked offensive line recruits ever.

We've seen what Michigan can do offensively with an established offensive line up front. Pair that with Underwood's talent, and the Michigan offense feels much more exciting than it has in some time.

The best teams win in the trenches. That's an established fact. With what we've seen Ohio State's defensive line do in the playoffs, as well as Oregon and Penn State's incredible defensive fronts, it's a smart idea to invest heavily in the offensive line to win in the trenches over flashy receivers and running backs.
