Sherrone Moore has the Michigan Wolverines back on track after a slow start to the 2026 recruiting cycle. The team's landed four high pedigree commits in the last 90 days and they continue to make top three, four, and five lists for big name recruits all around. And now they're closing in on one of the most important recruiting targets of the entire cycle thanks to yet another visit from running backs coach Tony Alford.

Savion Hiter, Five Star RB Recruit

Savion Hiter has been a high priority target for about 30 programs around the country since he emerged as the clear RB1 in the 2026 recruiting class two years ago. Michigan joined the fray a bit later than most of the true contenders to land his services (March of last year), but since then they have visited with him more than any other school in the country.

Coach Tony Alford took yet another trip to see the five star talent this week just before his official visit season kicks off next week with Ohio State.

Why is Savion Hiter such a big deal? Hiter was racking up 1000-yard seasons early in high school, but then tallied nearly 2000 yards on just 150 or so carries last fall. He's an unbelievably explosive, strong, efficient runner that would fit perfectly as the next feature running back for Michigan.

Hiter is set to visit just four schools in the upcoming month as he narrows down his options: Ohio State (5/30), Georgia (6/6), Michigan (6/13), and Tennessee (6/20). Considering that Michigan will have visited with Hiter a half dozen times in the last year by the time his official visit wraps up, the Wolverines certainly look like a real contender among his finalists.

Michigan does still have transfer star-in-the-making Justice Haynes and emerging talent Jordan Marshall as a rising sophomore who could shine at running back this year. However, beyond this year there are questions in the backfield. Hiter is such a talent that he would likely warrant early snaps as a true freshman if he inevitably joins the Wolverines.

Let's just hope that Sherrone Moore and coach Alford's work pays off. If so, the offensive weaponry around five star quarterback Bryce Underwood could begin to look completely set for his entire Michigan career.
