Michigan Wolverines in driver’s seat for pair of talented transfer playmakers to help Bryce Underwood elevate offense next season
The Michigan Wolverines are favored to add two offensive playmakers who could be key targets for Bryce Underwood next year.
The Michigan Wolverines started off a little slow in the transfer portal as they worked to retain several key cogs on the roster instead of shop externally at first. However, the train has started to pick up steam over the last couple of days, adding in key players like John Henry Daley, Jonah Lea’ea, and Taylor Tatum.
Now, the Wolverines are in the driver’s seat to add two intriguing playmakers on offense who could help Bryce Underwood settle in as the starting quarterback in Kyle Whittingham’s first season as head coach.

The Michigan Wolverines lost former elite recruit Ty Haywood to the transfer portal, but it’s an outcome that both sides wanted.
Michigan Wolverines picked to land key playmakers
Kyle Whittingham has already brought over two players from the Utah Utes in defensive linemen John Henry Daley and Jonah Lea’ea. Now, he’s set to add another former Ute on the offensive side of the ball. Former Utah tight end JJ Buchanan is trending to land in Ann Arbor after his recent visit to the Wolverines. Buchanan logged 26 catches for 427 receiving yards and five touchdowns as a freshman at Utah last season. Eighteen of his receptions came on passes of 10-plus air yards.
He’s not the only transfer portal weapon the Wolverines are heavily pursuing and feel good about landing. Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Jaime Ffrench is set to visit Michigan over the weekend, and the Wolverines have been heavily involved from the get-go in his recruitment. Ffrench was the No.52 overall recruit in the class of 2025 and the ninth-ranked receiver in the class.
These are both positions Michigan desperately needed to restock in the transfer portal. The tight end room lost both Marlin Klein and Max Bredeson to the NFL Draft, with little proven talent behind the pair, while wide receiver was a disappointment all season long aside from Andrew Marsh. If the Wolverines want to maximize Bryce Underwood, they had to keep surrounding him with talent, and it sounds like they are poised to do just that.
