The Michigan Wolverines are still building momentum this offseason as Sherrone Moore and his staff try to capitalize on their on-field success to end the 2024 season. The 2025 recruiting cycle was a huge win for Coach Moore as the Wolverines brought in a Top 10 class among all FBS schools. And he's clearly not done there.

As official visits continue to hit the schedule around the country for this spring and summer, Michigan is racking up the numbers for potential commitments. Just this weekend yet another four star has set an official visit with Michigan as the Wolverines try and keep him away from a newfound recruiting rival.

Chace Calicut, Four Star Safety Recruit

A surprising new rival on the recruiting trail has emerged in the form of the Texas Longhorns this offseason. Just this week alone Michigan has gained and lost an edge on multiple prospects they're aiming for alongside Texas. Running back recruiting target Javion Osborne canceled a Texas visit, giving Michigan the lead. A couple other offensive recruits set officials with the Longhorns (instead of Michigan, among other schools).

Now it's Michigan's turn to potentially play spoilers in the running against Texas yet again. Chace Calicut, a four star safety recruit from Houston, Texas surprisingly seems to have a keen interest in Michigan as he locked in his official visit with the Wolverines this week.

Calicut hasn't taken many unofficial visits so far, but he's likely about to get busy with those soon. The expert sentiment has long been that he would just default to Texas (or perhaps Texas A&M), but recent buzz and quotes directly from Calicut have made it clear that his recruitment is far from over.

In multiple recent interviews Calicut emphasized the importance of Michigan's success on the field and their propensity to send plenty of players to the NFL. It sounds like Michigan's not just in it, but they could actually begin trending towards "favorite" status.

Calicut has been a bit of a late riser in the 2026 recruiting class, only jumping up to four star pedigree in November of last year via most recruiting services. However, he may continue to rise as he's begun exploding as a star for the legendary 7v7 South Florida Express team. Calicut's impressive athleticism that wasn't always flashy early in high school looks like it's developing quickly.

Hopefully Sherrone Moore and company can close the deal by adding at least one more unofficial visit ahead of their final touch point in June.
