Sherrone Moore and Michigan just landed their highest rated college football quarterback recruit of all time in Bryce Underwood. They may have had to fork out a massive NIL deal to get it done, but they're keeping the in-state five star quarterback talent at home.

There is no overstating how special of a recruiting win this is for the program, but what's great that is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Michigan's unbelievable recruiting momentum. Sherrone Moore and his staff have already been doing a masterful job even prior to this huge news. Now they may be set to build something they've never built before after what has been a surprisingly disappointing season. How? And what might it look like?

Bryce Underwood, Five Star QB Recruit

First off, the foundation of Michigan's future rests with Bryce Underwood now. That much is obvious. And it's pretty cool to see that Underwood has wanted to play for Michigan for most of his entire life. Underwood shared a video after flipping from Brian Kelly and LSU to Sherrone Moore and Michigan on his socials that showed him "committing" to Michigan as a child back in 2016 as you can see in the post below.

For those unfamiliar with just how special Bryce Underwood is, he won back to back Michigan state championships, and made it to another while throwing around 150 touchdowns to nearly single digit interceptions throughout his high school career. He should immediately become the day one starting quarterback, thankfully and mercifully replacing the sad mix of quarterbacks Wolverines fans have had to endure in 2024. Davis Warren, Alex Orji, and Jack Tuttle have done their best this season, but they're no J.J. McCarthy. Underwood might be even better than McCarthy with greater arm strength and mobility.

Just having Bryce Underwood as a part of the Michigan program should spark newfound momentum on the recruiting trail as the best players in the country will want to play with him. But Sherrone Moore and company were building something long before Underwood ever signed. And it might just be building towards a recruiting class Michigan has never had before.

Michigan Recruiting Commits Since 2024 Season Began

  • Bryce Underwood, 5 Star Quarterback (11/21)
  • Elijah Dotson, 4 Star Safety (11/20)
  • Jamar Browder, 3 Star Wide Receiver (11/8)
  • Shamari Earls, 4 Star Cornerback (11/1)
  • Benny Patterson, 4 Star Defensive Line (11/1)
  • Andrew Babalola, 5 Star Offensive Tackle (10/21)

Michigan had been on a recruiting hot streak for weeks prior to Underwood's commitment. It began with five star offensive tackle Andrew Babalola who committed almost exactly a month before Underwood. Then when November kicked off four more recruits in a row declared they would be head to Ann Arbor.

Now, with Underwood as the centerpiece, Michigan recruiting has a top ten 2025 class as of this writing already. They have two five stars, 12 four stars, and the job is not done. Sherrone Moore is still offering other high pedigree recruits and may look to flip a few more as the early signing period of December 4th to the 6th approaches.

If this momentum continues Michigan could seriously climb up into the top five recruiting classes in the nation. The highest recruiting class rank the Wolverines have ever had is fourth (in the modern era of recruiting since 2010) overall. They might just push to pass that up now. If they can, Michigan would immediately be put in position turn their roster and record around in just one season.

Keep an eye on five star edge defender Isaiah Gibson, who is currently committed to Georgia as of this writing. Derek Meadows, a high four star wide receiver who was also committed to LSU with Bryce Underwood is another name to watch. If Sherrone Moore can just flip a few more blue chips he might be putting together the greatest Wolverines recruiting class of all time.
