The Michigan Wolverines lose most of their defensive line rotation from this season, as multiple starters and key depth players graduate and have their eyes on the NFL Draft.

While the team acquitted itself well in the bowl game against Alabama, they still need to replenish the talent of the room. Part of that could be on the way out of the transfer portal, as a player from another prominent program is set to visit the Wolverines over the weekend.

Clemson defensive tackle Tre Williams is likely to commit to the Wolverines. Williams entered the portal as a graduate transfer. Williams is On3's 34th-ranked defensive tackle and the 515th-best overall player in the transfer portal.

The graduate transfer registered 16 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, two pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries and played 300 snaps in 14 games (three starts) this year. He ended his Clemson career playing 15 snaps and recording two sacks in the team’s first-round Collge Football Playoff loss at Texas.

Williams notched 42 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, two pass breakups, and three fumble recoveries in his career, playing 722 defensive snaps (17.1 per game) in 44 games (four starts). He battled injury throughout much of his career but stayed healthy this season.

Interestingly enough, Williams has several ties to the Michigan program. Williams, a Connecticut native, is from the same training program that produced Michigan EDGE Kechaun Bennett. He is also a close friend of Michigan defensive back Quinten Johnson, according to On3's The Wolverine.

Michigan will lose Mason Graham and Kenneth Grant to the NFL Draft, while backup defensive tackle senior Rayshaun Benny has yet to announce his next steps. That could be over 1,300 snaps departing from the middle of Michigan's defensive line. Williams has the size to take on multiple roles to help fill in that void for the Wolverines next season.
