Wolverines make the shocking decision to fire head coach Sherrone Moore after Michigan finishes 2025 9-3
The Wolverines have fired Sherrone Moore for probable cause.
Not many were expecting to see the notification on Wednesday across their social media that the Michigan Wolverines fired head coach Sherrone Moore after a 9-3 season in 2025.
Now, the Wolverines are left with a ton of questions regarding their program. And the fans are left with questions about their firing.
Michigan fired Moore for probable cause
There are a lot of reports out there right now, and not all of them are accurate. The first initial report was just that Moore had been fired for probable cause. Then, the big news hit.
According to CBS’ Brandon Marcelo, Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel says the investigation uncovered “credible evidence” that Moore “engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and U-M maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.”
Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports followed up with his own report that Moore had been fired due to “violation of university policies after an investigation uncovered off-the-field transgressions.”
So, at the moment, this is a bit of a sticky situation for Michigan, which just finished with a pretty good 2025 season. There will be more to come out about this situation as it unfolds. However, this one shocked the college football world.
Moore took over for now Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh after winning a National Championship two seasons ago. Since Michigan has gone 8-5 in 2024 and is now 9-3. It also had the No. 1 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class in Bryce Underwood, who showed a ton of promise his freshman season. What happens there will also be something to follow.
The Wolverines are now getting a late start on the search for their new head coach due to this situation, and it could leave their football program wounded in 2026. For now, Biff Poggi is set to be the interim again.
