The Michigan Wolverines have already built a strong recruiting class, sitting tenth in the 2026 rankings. However, the pursuit of talent never stops, and they have been relentless in turning the talent of the roster over the last year. An opportunity has already opened up for them to add even more talent to the roster, and it’s one that Michigan is fully intent on capitalizing on.

The Penn State Nittany Lions shocked the college football world when they fired head coach James Franklin earlier this week, and now their recruiting classes are starting to crack. Numerous players have begun decommitting or taking visits elsewhere, and the Wolverines are swooping in to seize on the talent left behind.

Michigan has already started lining up visits for players and begun circling the wagons to add to their already elite recruiting classes in 2026 and 2027. If the Wolverines can continue winning on the football field, they have a shot at back-to-back-to-back top ten recruiting classes.

Michigan already adding former Penn State commits

Shortly after Franklin’s firing, five-star running back Kemon Spell decommitted from the Nittany Lions. The number-one running back in the 2027 class, Spell is a top-ten recruit. Michigan has already established a strong relationship with Spell from before his commitment to Penn State, and are using that to capitalize on the ongoing disaster with the Nittany Lions. Spell has already lined up a visit with Michigan, and will be heading to Ann Arbor for their matchup against the Ohio State Buckeyes. If Spell commits, the Wolverines would have added the number-one running back in both the 2026 and 2027 classes.

Spell isn’t the only 2027 Nittany Lion the Wolverines are pursuing. Four-star wide receiver Khalil Taylor also decommitted this week following Franklin’s fire. Much like Spell, he too will also be visiting Michigan for The Game on November 29th. Taylor will also be visiting Big Ten rivals like Ohio State, Nebraska, and Oregon throughout the season.

2026 EDGE rushers Jackson Ford and Tyson Harley have also been rumored targets that Michigan will circle back on soon. With Julian Walker’s recruitment getting tense, it would be wise for the Wolverines to re-establish that relationship with Ford, especially since Michigan was a finalist for him before his commitment. Additionally, Harley is a teammate of Michigan commit Carter Meadows, so there is a potential pipeline here. Michigan should stack as much talent in this room as they can with the departures of Derrick Moore, Jaishawn Barham, and TJ Guy imminent.
