Mike Elko didn't waste any time getting Texas A&M in good position on the recruiting trail this past season. It may have just been year one for him, but the Aggies locked up a Top 10 recruiting class for 2025.
Now he's already at it again for 2026 as he hopes to get his defense up to an elite level in the coming seasons. What move did he make this time? The Aggies flipped an incredible four star defensive recruit away from a dominant Big Ten defense who could end up being the face of the Aggies defense here soon.
Victor Singleton, Four Star Cornerback Recruit
Victor Singleton, a highly ranked four star recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, announced on Saturday that he has flipped his commitment from Illinois to Texas A&M, becoming the 11th commit already set for the Aggies' class next spring.
This was a huge flip for many reasons, but the most significant being that Singleton was one of the most highly coveted recruits in the nation (and from Ohio), but Elko still pulled off the win.
This recruiting flip was a bit of a surprise seeing as Victor Singleton had just committed to Illinois in February, then visited with the Illini again this past week.
Many believed if Singleton was going to flip to anywhere else it would likely come down to Ohio State or Michigan, but Mike Elko and company stunned the recruiting world, landing an impressive man-cover corner with excellent instincts and athleticism. With Singleton now a part of the 2026 group, Texas A&M is on pace for a Top 5 recruiting class next spring.
Beyond being a huge recruiting win and an indicator of momentum for Mike Elko and his staff, Singleton could also play a massive role immediately at Texas A&M. The Aggies already lost both Brian Mayes and Jaydon Hill to graduation and the NFL Draft this offseason. Now they're set to perhaps lose Will Lee III, Dezz Ricks (maybe), and Julian Humphrey (transfer from Georgia) after the 2025 season too.
Yes, Elko's staff did just bring in two phenomenal freshman talents at cornerback in Adonyss Currie and Jamar Beal-Gaines (both high four stars), but the cornerback room could be quite empty in 2026. Regardless of who they add on top of Currie and Beal-Gaines, Singleton looks situated to possibly earn a starting job in year one thanks to his elite skill set and the likely opportunity at hand.
Huge win for Elko and Texas A&M fans. Let's hope Singleton stays committed now.
