How high will pass-rusher Shemar Stewart be selected after his historic NFL combine performance? If his visit with the San Francisco 49ers is any indicator, it could be in the top 15 picks.
The 49ers hosted Stewart for a top 30 visit on Wednesday, per NFL Network.
Stewart, who is 21 years old, didn't become a full-time starter until 2024. In his previous seasons, he recorded just 1.5 sacks, seven quarterback hurries, and 5.5 tackles for loss, concluding his college career with 65 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 4.5 sacks.
Elko had previously defended Stewart's lack of production.
"I don't know that that always tells the whole story. I know the NFL sees that. I think if you asked offensive coaches in the SEC the impact those kids had on games, I think they would probably tell you it's a little bit more than just the stat numbers."
"I think sack production, you know the way those kids impact games, is immeasurable," Elko said of Stewart's sack numbers. "I don't think you can just look at sack numbers. I think I read somewhere that he had about a third of the amount of one-on-one pass rush opportunities this year because of double teams, chips, and seven-man protection screens."
His performance at the Senior Bowl significantly boosted his draft prospects.
Throughout the pre-draft process, Stewart has engaged with multiple teams, including the Steelers, Patriots, and Bears.
