The Mississippi State Bulldogs have been one of the most active teams in the entire country during the latest transfer portal window. Their latest addition is one of their biggest so far, particularly for head coach Jeff Lebby's offense going forward.

Fluff Bothwell commits to the Bulldogs

Bothwell committed to Mississippi State on Christmas Eve, according to On3Sports. The former South Alabama RB accumulated 832 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on 111 carries this past season.

Bothwell was one of the top running backs in the entire transfer portal. The true freshman was rated as a four-star transfer, according to 247Sports

He also held interest from Ole Miss, where he also recently visited. Bothwell enters the Bulldog RB room alongside Johnnie Daniels and Seth Davis, who is coming off of a major injury.

“I’ve been up there before and it was a good visit,” Bothwell told the Maroon and White Daily. “I like their coaching staff and they’ve got a good staff. We got to tour the facilities and see what they have to offer. We looked at what they have to offer from a recovery standpoint with their training staff. I thought that visit helped Mississippi State.”

“It was great with Coach Lebby,” added Bothwell, an Alabama native. “He’s an awesome guy. We got to look at his offense and he basically runs the same offense I just came from. So it’s an offense I’m used to. They really put a hat on needing a No. 1 running back so that stood out to me, also.” — On3Sports

Bothwell is a dynamic runner that will play a notable role next season for Lebby's offense.

Mississippi State's starting RB from this past season, Davon Booth, previously announced his intention to enter the NFL Draft, but he recently learned that he could return for another year of collegiate play, due to Diego Pavia's recent situation.

It is currently unknown if Booth will return next season or not.

The Bulldogs also recently landed a commitment from former HS five-star quarterback Luke Kromenhoek in the portal. He was one of the top avaialble QB options available. He joins Blake Shapen and Kamario Taylor on the depth chart for State.

The Bulldogs will continue to look for pieces in the portal to their roster to begin the new year. Keep an eye out for a focus on the wide receiver position, as well as the defensive line for Mississippi State.
