The Nebraska Cornhuskers have one of the best young quarterbacks in the country. That's not an opinion, it's a fact. Actually, he may be the best freshman quarterback in the country. Dylan Raiola is the real deal, even if you're one of his haters who hates how he mimics some of the things Patrick Mahomes does, you cannot deny that the kid is good.

If there was an award for Freshman Quarterback of the Year, but for the 1/4 mark of the season, Raiola would have it. Sure, his talent on the field is spectacular, as we have seen him make some of the exact same throws that Mahomes makes. He dies the no-look, the side arm, and he has made throws that would count as catch of the year if only they were actually caught.\

But, what's even more impressive is how he is mentally, and how he is off of the field. You would never know that he is a true freshman. He doesn't talk a lot, or boast about stats or NIL deals, or anything like that. He's a good kid, and he's humble, but most of all, he's hungry, and he's smart. His IQ is amazing, and his work ethic is impeccable.

You could say that he's so far ahead of his development, that he's already Matt Rhule's personal alarm clock.

"Dylan dives into everything, bro," head coach Matt Rhule said on Monday. "Dylan woke me up in my office this morning (4:30 AM), bro. He came in and banged and I woke up. That's him, he's here first thing in the morning. He's going away this week and he's on the plane like 'Hey can you watch UCLA play 24?' He's just at a whole other level. But at the end of the day, it still comes down to being in the moment…

"I think his leadership and touchpoints he does in terms of getting around the guys. Just constantly getting with the guys and talking with them. When you're that talented and you're having that much success, there's going to be a lot of voices, but every week he tries to find three things to improve on."

Raiola is only 19 years old, yet has the maturity and work ethic of guys you see in college. And, that's something that will carry over from one year to the next. You see this week to week, too. Of course, he makes mistakes, because he's young. But, next week you will see him in a similar scenario and he will make the right decision.

The Cornhuskers have a very bright future ahead of them, as does Raiola. And when you have a quarterback that has the potential he does, you have the potential to build a great team around him, and potentially win a championship. They will go on to play the Indiana Hoosiers this week, who are one of the best teams in the country.
