Nebraska Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule has started the turnaround at Nebraska, whether you want to believe they are falling off or not. Look at where they were with Scott Frost when he was fired, and look at the trajectory they have now and where they are headed. There is still a ton of work to do.

Most of that work comes on the recruiting side of things. The Cornhuskers are in a good position, and soon they could be in an even better position if they could flip a 2026 recruit.

Nebraska is trying to flip FSU safety

Darryl "Tre" Bell III is a four-star safety from the 2026 class, committed to Florida State University. He’s from Barbara Goleman Senior High School in Miami Lakes, Florida, and is 6’0”, 175 pounds. Bell committed to FSU in 2023, making him one of the first recruits in their 2026 class, which is already one of the best. Rivals ranks him as the No. 21 safety and No. 219 overall player in his class, and he’s a big get for FSU coach Mike Norvell.

But he could be a big flip for Nebraska.

Bell plays multiple positions at Goleman High, mostly free safety but also cornerback and wide receiver. In his sophomore year, he had 11 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack on defense, plus eight catches for 120 yards and two touchdowns on offense, per MaxPreps. He’s aggressive, good at reading plays, and forces turnovers, which is why FSU sees him as a strong safety or nickel in their defense. He also plays basketball, showing his all-around athletic ability.

Even though he’s committed to FSU, Bell says his recruitment is “still open” as of March 2025. Schools like Alabama, Michigan, Georgia, Auburn, Louisville, Nebraska, and North Carolina are after him, and he plans to visit some of them. He’s been to FSU several times for camps and games, liking the coaches, especially Norvell. With two years until signing day, other teams could still sway him, but Bell’s skills make him a standout in the 2026 class.

He has a visit to Nebraska, who have some of the best facilities in the country. That will be their chance to prove to him that he should go to Nebraska.
