Notre Dame football extended a very intriguing offer this week to 2026 Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day wide receiver Gordon Sellars. This isn’t an instance where Mike Brown and the Fighting Irish staff found a late riser or diamond in the rough. No, this is one of the best pass catchers in the 2026 recruiting class.

Sellars is considered to be a consensus four-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. He ranks highest by ESPN, currently sitting as the No. 144 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class. They also rank him as the No. 25 wide receiver and No. 9 player in the state of North Carolina, an area the Irish staff is thriving in right now.

As a junior, Sellars was a dynamic weapon for Providence Day, a power in the state of North Carolina. In 11 games, the 6-2, 180-pound pass catcher managed to haul in 50 receptions for 975 yards and 10 touchdowns. That is a stellar average of 19.5 yards per reception, showcasing his big play ability.

An impressive group of schools has been pursuing Sellars for some time now. Some of his top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, Clemson, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida State, Miami, South Carolina, Arkansas, Syracuse, Kentucky, NC State, UNC, Maryland, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Duke, Indiana, and Vanderbilt among several others.

Not only is the interest high, but Sellars also has a plan to commit on Friday, April 18. The North Carolina star will be choosing between finalists Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Clemson, South Carolina, and North Carolina A&T.

With that decision just a week away, why offer him now if you're Notre Dame? Where do the Fighting Irish fit into this recruitment?

According to a source, Sellars has solidified his first visit to South Bend. He will be heading to campus this Tuesday, April 15th. That is just three days before he plans to make his decision. While it’s unlikely anything changes, Notre Dame has at least piqued his interest and Sellars wants to check out to see what makes them unique, even though they have come in very late. It’s a school that he has had some admiration for and wants to at least check out.

With the success Notre Dame has had in North Carolina recently, which includes 2026 commitments from linebacker Thomas Davis Jr., and pass rushers Rodney Dunham, and Ebenezer Ewetade, it does give the fanbase some confidence. It is very unlikely that the Irish staff swoops in this late and come out on top, but it is still interesting to watch. Seeing the impact that visit has on Sellars is worth keeping close tabs on.
