The Notre Dame Fighting Irish got back to their winning ways this past weekend against the Purdue Boilermakers, although in pretty ugly fashion by a score of 56 to 30. The offense did a lot of tremendous things behind the right arm of redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr, and the dynamic running of Jeremiyah Love and Jadarian Price. The defensive woes, however, continued with Chris Ash needing to find some answers, and quickly. This is a team with a lot of talent, but way too many inconsistencies.

They have a very unique challenge this week when they travel down to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks. This will be the first meeting between the two teams in their program’s history, and Sam Pittman’s squad is a unique opportunity to see if this Fighting Irish squad is trending in the right direction or not. It will be an early kickoff on Saturday, and head coach Marcus Freeman will have to have his team ready.

Notre Dame’s 2024 schedule:

  • Aug. 31 – at Miami (L 27-24)
  • Sept. 6 – Bye
  • Sept. 13 – Texas A&M (L 41-40)
  • Sept. 20 – Purdue (W 56-30)
  • Sept. 27 – at Arkansas
  • Oct. 4 – Boise State
  • Oct. 11 – NC State
  • Oct. 18 – USC
  • Oct. 25 – Bye
  • Nov. 1 – at Boston College
  • Nov. 8 – Navy
  • Nov. 15 – at Pittsburgh
  • Nov. 22 – Syracuse
  • Nov. 29 – at Stanford

On the offensive side of the football, Notre Dame should be able to continue their momentum. The Razorbacks have struggled on that side of the football, especially stopping the run. Love and Price should be a heavy part of the offense early in that football game, and let Carr settle in. It will be an SEC environment, and you can bet that the Arkansas fans will be ready to go. Letting Carr get comfortable could be the key to the football game down the stretch.

For the Irish defense, this will arguably be their biggest challenge to date outside of Texas A&M. Quarterback Taylen Green is a very inconsistent player, but he is also a very talented dual threat option. Slowing him down, while forcing him into some mistakes, is a top priority. If they do that, the defense has a chance to have a bouceback game, although I wouldn’t predict it.
