Over the past several recruiting classes, Notre Dame football has recruited the linebacker position as well as anyone. Ever since head coach Marcus Freeman came to South Bend, that position has been on a whole other level. That looks to continue in the 2026 recruiting class.

The Fighting Irish are off to a fast start in 2026, already holding a commitment from Thomas Davis Jr., and also have positioned themselves with several other talented linebackers. One interesting player to know is Miami (Fla.) Central defender Karon Maycock, who is currently committed to the Florida State Seminoles. While new to the board and to Notre Dame, Maycock will be getting a better introduction this week.

Maycock is currently on a visit to Notre Dame for the first time. He has been committed to Florida State since January, but clearly he is keeping his options open. The Irish see him as a Rover in their system, and appears to be a tremendous fit if they can make the flip happen.

From a recruiting rankings perspective, Maycock won’t excite Notre Dame fans. He is currently ranked as a consensus three-star recruit by every major recruiting platform. On the 247Sports Composite ranking, Maycock is rated as the No. 450 overall player, No. 36 linebacker, and No. 67 player in the state of Florida in the 2026 recruiting class.

Despite that modest ranking, Maycock has put together a strong offer list. Some of the top programs that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Alabama, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Miami, Penn State, Florida, Florida State, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Missouri, Louisville, Arkansas, NC State, Pittsburgh, SMU, Syracuse, Indiana, Arizona State, and UCF among others.

In eight games as a junior, Maycock put together a tremendous season for Miami Central. The 6-1, 200-pound defender managed to collect 62 total tackles, 17 tackles for loss, three sacks, two forced fumbles, and three pass breakups.
