Notre Dame football named the early favorite for an elite 5-star defender that every premier program wants
Notre Dame looks like they are in a great early spot for an elite 2028 recruiting target.
Notre Dame football is coming off a very successful recruiting weekend several days ago. While most of the attention is on the 2027 recruiting class, head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish staff were also hosts for several of the top 2028 recruiting targets on their board. It was an impressive list, although a smaller group of players.
There was no more important 2028 recruit on campus in South Bend over the weekend than elite Louisville (Ky.) Christian Academy defensive lineman Kellan Hall. Considered to be one of the better overall players in the 2028 class, things appear to be in a great spot early on. Getting the Kentucky native back to campus as much as possible will be important.
Hall hasn’t even finished his sophomore year of high school, so there is a lot of time left in this recruitment. While a lot will change from now, Freeman, Charlie Partridge, and Co. have put themselves in tremendous early standing. According to Steve Wiltong from On3 and Rivals, Notre Dame is the early favorite for Hall.
When it comes to top early recruiting targets in the 2028 class for Notre Dame, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more important one than Hall right now. We are a long way away from the dominant defender making a commitment, but for now, the Irish have positioned themselves well. The Notre Dame staff must remain consistent to potentially land the five-star when it matters most.
Kellan Hall’s recruiting background
Hall is considered to be an elite player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Hall is currently rated as a five-star, the No. 11 overall player, the No. 2 defensive lineman, and the No. 1 player from the state of Kentucky for the 2028 recruiting class. He has the potential to be considered one of the very best players in his class in the end.
It shouldn’t be much of a surprise, but a long list of impressive programs has been pursuing Hall. Some of his top offers right now include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Kentucky, Wisconsin, SMU, Louisville, Virginia Tech, and Maryland, among others.
In 11 games as a sophomore, Hall was dominant for Christian Academy of Louisville. The 6-4, 260-pound defender managed to record 53 total tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss, and 6.5 sacks. Hall was named as an All-American 1st team selection by Rivals, the 3A lineman of the year in the state, All-State First team defense, and an All-District honoree. Watching Hall dominate the competition at such a young age is a sight to see.
