Notre Dame football and head coach Marcus Freeman did a tremendous job using their momentum from last season to up their game even further on the recruiting trail. We saw a great run in the 2026 recruiting class, and the staff’s attention has already turned to the 2027 class. There have been some great early returns for their efforts.

The Fighting Irish are set for their home opener this week against the Texas A&M Aggies, a matchup that will be primetime on Saturday night. On top of Notre Dame trying to get back to their winning ways, this is also going to be a massive recruiting weekend as well for the program. Having a top-25 team from the SEC in South Bend is a tremendous chance to impress a long list of targets on campus.

There is going to be a large contingency of talented 2027 pass catchers expected to make the trip. Wide receivers coach Mike Brown managed to put together a really nice 2026 wide receiver class, a position that had given the team some difficulty in the past. The conversation this weekend begins with the top local target for the Irish.

The future of the wide receiver position… potentially

As reported by Steve Wiltfong, the vice president of recruiting for Rivals, Notre Dame is going to be welcoming Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel wide receiver Quentin Burrell to campus for a return visit. The 6-3, 175-pound pass catcher is currently rated as a five-star player and the No. 29 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class according to the 247 Sports Composite ranking. Keeping that type of talent “at home” needs to be a major priority.

In an interview that Burrell did with Wiltfong, he spoke fondly of the Irish and their pitch so far to him.

“The opportunity to play at Notre Dame is exciting as it is, but to play for the great coaches they have is what continues to keep my interest,” Burrell told Wiltfong. “They push you to be your best on and off the field. I think our relationship is building and it will continue to develop over these next few months.”

Speaking of local five-star wide receivers, Notre Dame will also be hosting Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North Star Monshun Sales for another visit as well. The 6-5, 195-pound wideout presents the type of playmaking size that the Irish need more of. Sales ranks as the No. 13 overall player on the Composite ranking, and is also pegged as a five-star.

One interesting wide receiver that will also be making the trip is Rolesville (NC) High standout Anthony Roberts. Considered a four-star player by a variety of the major recruiting platforms, Roberts has a high opinion of Notre Dame so far. The Fighting Irish staff has had a ton of notable success in the state of North Carolina recently.

If you wanted to feel a bit old, Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas wide receiver Julius Jones Jr. is another top target who will be on campus. Due to his family and early understanding of the Notre Dame program, they are standing out to him in a big way so far. He is another ultra-productive pass catcher who plays against a high level of competition in the state of Florida.

One sleeper to know that will be on campus is Fort Mitchell (Ky.) Beechwood athlete Tyler Fryman. He is currently committed to Louisville for baseball, but that hasn’t stopped the Irish from pursuing him. This is very much a player to watch closely.

As a Notre Dame fan, it’s hard not to be excited about this star-studded list of recruits heading to South Bend this weekend. That is especially true at wide receiver, watching the tides turn at the position. Let’s hope the Irish have a big performance to solidify the early momentum in 2027.
