LSU has several potential transfer portal entrants that Notre Dame should have interest in following the Brian Kelly firing
LSU has several potential Transfer Portal entrants that Notre Dame should consider.
Even though Brian Kelly claimed that it was easier to recruit at LSU, his roster isn’t the most appealing from an outsider’s perspective. With his dismissal as head coach, there is sure to be some roster turnover here over the next few months. Programs like Notre Dame would be wise to do their homework on this LSU squad and have those evaluations in hand for when they potentially opt for the Transfer Portal.
When it comes specifically to head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish, there aren’t a ton of players that I would potentially pursue off of this roster, at least not ones I’d call realistic options. There are, however, a few I would at least have a conversation about. It will all depend on fit, and if Notre Dame believes that the fit makes sense.
Here are the current LSU players I’d have some interest in if they do enter the portal.
TE Trey’Dez Green (So.)
This one is the easy one, and the majority of programs will pursue Green if he does become available. At 6-7 and 240 pounds, Green is a freaky athlete at the tight end position who has superstar upside. With Eli Raridon heading to the NFL level after this season, the tight end position does have several question marks. Mixing someone like Green with the likes of Cooper Flanagan and James Flanigan would be a fun combination.
DT Dominick McKinley (So.)
At 6-6 and 308 pounds, McKinley is a massive interior presence who was once considered a five-star player coming out of Acadiana High School in the 2024 recruiting class. We have seen flashes from McKinley, but it hasn’t been nearly consistent enough. You can’t, however, teach that combination of size and athleticism. He would be worth a long look.
CB PJ Woodland (So.)
Woodland is a talented cover cornerback who has been playing mostly inside at the nickel. I’m not sure if Notre Dame will have the need to go to the portal for another nickel, but if they do, Woodland is a younger player with some nice upside. He’s a lot feistier than you would expect a 5-11, 165-pound cornerback.
EDGE Damien Shanklin (Fr.)
Shanklin is a player that Notre Dame was very high on in the 2024 class, but he wasn’t quite as fond of the Irish. The 6-5, 260-pound pass rusher has a ton of talent, but we haven’t seen it on the field so far this year. Would Notre Dame have any interest the second time around? It feels unlikely, but you never know.

It’s time for LSU fans to finally admit that the Irish fanbase was right all along about Brian Kelly and his self-created ceiling
Notre Dame fans deserve an apology.
