Don’t look now folks, but Notre Dame football is set to finally return. Their 2025 college football season is set to kick off this Sunday, August 31st at 7:30 Eastern time against the Miami Hurricanes down in Hard Rock Stadium. This Fighting Irish program is riding a ton of momentum under head coach Marcus Freeman, coming off a 14-2 overall record, as well as a National Championship Game appearance. While that is tremendous on paper, this Notre Dame team has a bad taste in their mouth after that final game loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes.

This battle against the Hurricanes promises to be an entertaining one. Everyone knows about the rivalry between these two programs, and go watch “Catholics vs Convicts” if you don’t know the background. Even though these teams don’t play much, there is always going to be some competitive angst between them.

It is tough to get a full gauge on just how good this Miami team truly is. They are coming off a 10-win season, but the roster has been overhauled in a big way. That includes on offense, where former Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will be leading the unit. This team is clearly going to try to spread the field a good bit, but they also have a talented backfield as well. Notre Dame has an elite secondary returning, and they will be tasked with trying to condense the Hurricane offensive attack. Forcing Beck into some key mistakes will be key.

On the defensive side of the football, Miami will have a really strong defensive line led by defensive end Rueben Bain Jr. Their secondary, however, is a major question mark. After having a struggling pass defense last season, they attacked the Transfer Portal in a big way. Redshirt freshman quarterback CJ Carr will be making his first career start, and will need to try to make a few explosive plays.
