Spring practice is set to kick off for Notre Dame on March 19th. With a longer season, the nature of an offseason has morphed a little bit but there is still a heavy emphasis on competition and development during these last several weeks for the Irish staff.

In order to get the fanbase ready for spring to kick off, I have spent the last few days trying to get as much offseason into as I possibly can. Here are some notes for the offensive side of the football. There is a lot of anticipation and intrigue for that unit right now.

  • The last time we saw wide receiver Jaden Greathouse on the field, he was putting together two consecutive dominant performances against Penn State and Ohio State. The last time we saw Greathouse in general, he was talking to the media about seeing the red confetti coming down as the Buckeyes celebrated the National Championship, and how that feeling was going to stick with him for a long time. It appears that Greathouse has continued to keep that bad taste in his mouth, and he has been working like a maniac so far this offseason. I’m told he has been laser-focused, and everyone expects Greathouse to be the leader of the group and become a consistent difference maker that we saw down the stretch in 2024.
  • From the sounds of it, the Notre Dame staff is excited about several of their younger pass catchers. Most people ask a lot about Cam Williams considering he was such a highly rated recruit. Others have hyped up Micah Gilbert a ton because of his first offseason, and all the practice reports that hyped him up. One person who I have heard excitement about from multiple people is Logan Saldate, the underrated member of that 2024 recruiting class. I expect Saldate to have a big Spring, and don’t be shocked if we see him a bit at Z receiver on top of the slot. This might be the underrated breakout that not enough people are considering.
  • There are some mixed opinions about whether Charles Jagusah ends up fitting at left tackle or inside at guard, but what I can tell you, there are some very high opinions of him around the program. Several staff members expected him to become one of the best offensive linemen in the country last season before the injury. There is no reason why Jagusah can’t have that type of ascension this offseason. The physical tools have continued to wow folks around campus, especially with him back fully healthy.
  • I have been doing a lot of digging about opinions on the impending quarterback battle. There has been a continued message that this will be a fair, and completely wide open battle. If I had to venture a guess as to who wins, it would be for Steve Angeli but I wouldn’t be shocked if CJ Carr won out. Most people would not give Kenny Minchey much of a chance, but Notre Dame certainly is. There are some in that program who are very huge on his natural tools.
