Notre Dame football predicted to land a massive five-star who could continue the incredible recruiting run for the Fighting Irish
Notre Dame predicted to land five-star offensive tackle previously committed to another Midwest power.
Notre Dame football is set to begin quite the recruiting stretch following its home victory over the USC Trojans this past weekend. That momentum under head coach Marcus Freeman has already actualized itself with the recent commitment of 2027 Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic four-star offensive lineman James Halter. The Fighting Irish legacy is just the beginning of a crazy run ahead of them.
One player to keep a close eye on who wasn’t in South Bend this past weekend is 2027 Middletown (Delaware) Appoquinimink five-star offensive tackle Layton Von Brandt. After all the issues surrounding the Penn State Nittany Lions and the firing of head coach James Franklin, Von Brandt is one of the talented recruits who opted to open his recruitment back up. Just a few days later, Notre Dame offered the Delaware native, and things appear to be moving fast between both sides.
Irish Illustrated recruiting analyst Eric Thomas submitted a crystal ball for Von Brandt to land with the Fighting Irish on Wednesday. If Thomas is correct, it would be a tremendous job by offensive line coach Joe Rudolph and the Notre Dame staff. He has quickly become an offensive recruiting target to know.
Layton Von Brandt recruiting background
Von Brandt is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms, and a near top-100 player on each as well. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Von Brandt currently ranks as a five-star player, including sitting as the No. 33 overall player, the No. 5 offensive tackle, and the No. 1 player in the state of Delaware for the 2027 recruiting class. That is not a traditional state for Notre Dame to target, but Von Brandt is just that good.
Even before Von Brandt committed to the Nittany Lions back in November of last year, a long list of impressive suitors had been pursuing the talented offensive lineman. The 6-6, 270-pound offensive tackle has an extremely impressive offer list. Some of the top schools that have offered him include the Fighting Irish, Penn State, Georgia, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida, Florida State, Missouri, Auburn, Indiana, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Boston College, Virginia, UNC, Stanford, Syracuse, and Rutgers, among several others.
Things are happening quickly, so only time will tell if the Fighting Irish can close the deal for sure. There is clearly a growing confidence that things are trending in a great direction. Von Brandt would be a great addition to an offensive line class that has the chance to be special.
