Top Notre Dame recruiting target makes a surprising decision that will force the Fighting Irish staff to shift their focus
Notre Dame football will have to shift recruiting focus after recent commitment.
With the commitment of Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb quarterback Teddy Jarrard a couple of weeks ago, Notre Dame football has been riding some nice early momentum in the 2027 recruiting class. One player that the Fighting Irish have seemingly been in a good spot for so far included 2027 Raleigh (N.C.) Rolesville running back Amir Brown. The program was battling schools such as Clemson and UNC, and the vibes were positive.
Brown spoke very positively about the Fighting Irish recently, including right after the Jarrard commitment. In an interview he did with Kyle Kelly from Blue and Gold Illustrated, the North Carolina native certainly made it seem like things were in a good place.
“I like everything about Notre Dame,” Brown said to Kelly. “The culture, coaches, education, and campus are very different. It stands out from others. I love that they’re building their 2027 class. Maybe I can add or be the next dude to join their class.”
The Brown recruitment is yet another example of just how fast the recruiting world can change. Over the weekend, Brown made a commitment to his home state Tar Heels. This was an unforeseen decision, and now will have Notre Dame prioritizing the top of the running back board a bit differently moving forward.
With so many talented running backs on the board, this commitment from Brown isn’t the end of the world. Assistant coach Ja’Juan Seider has a lot of impressive targets to consider, including current Penn State commit Kemon Spell. History has told us, both for Notre Dame recent memory, and Coach Seider, that running back recruiting will be just fine.
Brown is considered to be a four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms, the lone outlier being 247Sports, which has him as a three-star currently. The Rivals Industry ranking rates Brown as the No. 264 overall player, No. 20 running back, and No. 9 player in the state of North Carolina in the 2027 recruiting class.
The 5-10, 205-pound runner had demanded interest from a long list of programs so far in his process. Some of the most impressive offers Brown has earned include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Texas A&M, Penn State, Florida State, Louisville, UNC, Indiana, Maryland, Boston College, Baylor, Stanford, Duke, and UCF among others.
As a sophomore in 2024, Brown made a ton of plays for Rolesville. In 14 games, he rushed for 612 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Brown also hauled in 15 receptions for 269 yards and two more scores.
