Notre Dame football made an extremely intriguing offer on Wednesday when the Fighting Irish staff extended an offer to 2027 Rolesville (N.C.) High School wide receiver Anthony Roberts. The North Carolina native brings a very interesting athletic background, and also represents an area of the country that the Irish want to tap into more. Roberts is very much a player to keep a close eye on moving forward.
Roberts is rated as a four-star recruit on the 247Sports Composite ranking. He currently sits as the No. 246 overall player, No. 33 wide receiver, and No. 8 player in the state of North Carolina on that ranking. North Carolina has been a state that the Irish staff has prioritized in a big way the last couple of years.
The 6-2, 185-pound pass catcher has continued to add impressive offers to his list this offseason. Some of the top programs that have offered Roberts include the Fighting Irish, Miami, Penn State, Florida State, Louisville, UNC, and Duke among several others.
As a sophomore, the North Carolina standout was a dynamic weapon for Rolesville. He averaged over 20 yards per reception, while also averaging 19 points on the basketball team. Roberts is a legitimate prospect in both sports on the next level, which could figure into his recruitment long term.
As a whole, wide receiver recruiting has been extremely disappointing at times. Wide receivers coach Mike Brown is still trying to showcase a major recruiting impact, and has a chance to have a strong close in the 2026 recruiting class. It is very early on in the 2027 recruiting class, but building strong bonds early on is extremely important. Nobody knows how things are going to go with Roberts, but they wouldn't have gone anywhere if you didn't offer at all.
