Notre Dame football has been recruiting at an extremely high level under head coach Marcus Freeman. The Fighting Irish staff has seemingly cast a wider net to attract talented football players who can fit in South Bend. Their footprint is all over the country from a recruiting perspective, but there will always be a prioritization at the high schools that generally put out the most next-level talent.

We have seen the Irish try to get more into the California Trinity League in recent years, arguably the top high school football conference nationally. That league has given Notre Dame players such as Kyngstonn Viliamu-Asa, Madden Faraimo, and Cooper Flanagan. With how many talented football players come out of that area, it is smart for Coach Freeman and his staff to prioritize it.

Following in the footsteps of Viliamu-Asa, 2027 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco cornerback Jailen Hill is a player that Notre Dame has been fond of for some time now. Despite a long list of elite suitors continuing to push for the talented cover man, the Irish have separated themselves over the last couple of months. In a recent interview with Rivals vice president of recruiting Steve Wiltfong, he noted that Notre Dame is still the strong leader, with Hill having a lot of great things to say about the program.

“Coach (Mike) Mickens and coach Freeman still keep in contact,” Hill told Wiltfong. “I just love it there. There’s nothing that can be beaten about Notre Dame. I feel like I’m blessed to be in a situation like that to even get noticed by them. I love how Notre Dame is running everything from corners to the defense, I love how they pour into their players.”

As of today, Notre Dame is the clear team to beat for Hill. With the team holding commitments from Xavier Hasan, Ace Alston, and Khalil Terry in the secondary already, the class is filling up fast. Hill is one of the big names to continue keeping close tabs on.

Jailen Hill’s recruiting background

Hill is considered to be a consensus four-star player by each of the major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Hill currently sits as the No. 150 overall player, the No. 15 cornerback, and the No. 15 player from the state of California in the 2027 recruiting class. Notre Dame wants to continue to tap into the talent coming out of the Trinity League, and Hill is a part of that quest.

On top of his impressive recruiting rankings, the California native also boasts an outstanding offer list. Some of Hill’s top offers include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Alabama, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Florida, Texas A&M, USC, Miami, Florida State, Nebraska, Auburn, Arizona State, Washington, Michigan State, Arizona, Maryland, Purdue, and UCLA, among others.

The 6-2, 170-pound cover cornerback was tremendous for St. John Bosco as a junior. In 10 games played, Hill managed to record 11 total tackles, six interceptions, and three more pass breakups. Hill played previously for Inglewood High School but made a seamless transition with one of the very best high school programs in the country this season.
