Notre Dame football recruiting is riding a lot of momentum in the 2027 class right now. Of all the top targets remaining on the board, the search for their quarterback in the group is an extremely interesting one. Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Fighting Irish are choosing from a very small list.

You can officially scratch 2027 Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney quarterback Davin Davidson off that aforementioned list on Thursday when he makes his college decision. Davidson will be deciding between Florida, Georgia, Auburn, and Kentucky.

It appears that the Gators are the team to beat going into that decision. Rivals national recruiting analyst Chad Simmons logged an expert prediction for Florida to land the talented signal caller.

For Notre Dame, this shouldn’t be viewed as a major loss. While there was some intrigue about Davidson early after the offer, Utah signal caller Kamden Lopati (who is committed to Illinois) and and Florida star Champ Monds quickly became the top two quarterback targets in the class. That’s where the focus will remain.

Davin Davidson’s recruiting background

Davidson is a bit of a strange case when it comes to his recruiting rankings right now. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Davidson currently sits as a three-star, the No. 444 overall player, the No. 31 quarterback, and the No. 48 player from the state of Florida for the 2027 recruiting class. Rivals and ESPN have not rated the talented signal caller yet.

Despite that odd recruiting rankings profile, there is a long list of impressive programs that have been pursuing Davidson recently. Some of his top offers currently include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Florida, Miami, Florida State, Iowa, Auburn, Louisville, Kentucky, Georgia Tech, Michigan State, NC State, Virginia Tech, UNC, Cal, Duke, and Northwestern, among others.

As a junior in 2025, Davidson put together a tremendous season while leading Cardinal Mooney to a 14-1 overall record and a Florida 2A State championship. In those 15 games, the 6-6.5, 215-pound signal caller managed to throw for 2,360 yards and 23 touchdowns. Davidson also added three scores on the ground, while completing over 64 percent of his passes and throwing just six interceptions. While raw in some ways, Davidson has a lot of raw tools to get excited about.
