Notre Dame already has its attention turned to the 2028 quarterback class, and a couple top targets are set to visit for Texas A&M
Notre Dame football is already eyeing some dynamic 2028 quarterback recruits
Notre Dame football has been on quite a run recruiting the quarterback position under head coach Marcus Freeman. Over the last several classes, Notre Dame has been able to sign the likes of Kenny Minchey, CJ Carr, and Blake Hebert. They also hold commitments from Noah Grubbs and Teddy Jarrard in the 2026 and 2027 classes respectively.
With those commitments in hand, this has allowed offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and quarterbacks coach Gino Guidugli to already turn their attention to the 2028 recruiting class. It is very early, and if the 2027 class has taught us anything, Coach Freeman’s staff isn’t going to rush the process. They are, however, doing their early homework already.
Notre Dame is set to host the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night. This will serve as a huge opportunity for the Irish to get back to their winning ways, but it is also a huge recruiting weekend as well. There is a long list of talented recruits from the 2026, 2027, and 2028 recruiting classes who will be traveling to South Bend.
That includes a pair of talented 2028 quarterbacks, Detroit (Mich.) Cass Technical star Donald Tabron II and Wilmette (Ill.) Loyola Academy standout Matthew Lee. This gives Notre Dame a long look at one of the more heralded signal callers in the class, and a local talent that could be a massive riser.
Tabron is considered to be a five-star player on the early 247 Sports Composite ranking. He currently sits as the No. 39 overall player, the No. 5 quarterback, and the No. 3 player in the state of Michigan for the 2028 recruiting class.
A long list of impressive programs has already been pursuing Tabron heavily. Some of his top offers so far include Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Miami, Auburn, Louisville, Wisconsin, Michigan State, UNC, Kentucky, Indiana, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Illinois, and Purdue among several others.
As a freshman in 2024 for Cass Tech, Tabron managed to throw for 1,656 yards and 17 touchdowns. The 6-3, 180-pound passer also added 77 yards rushing on the ground while completing over 65 percent of his passes and throwing seven interceptions.
Lee, in comparison, doesn’t bring the same recruiting excitement as Tabron. The 6-4, 200-pound pocket passer, however, didn’t start as a freshman. Despite that, he has still managed to earn an offer from Wisconsin. Some other schools that are showing interest include the Fighting Irish, Michigan, Boston College, and Minnesota. He looks like a player who will blow up down the road.
