Notre Dame football should have their eyes on several LSU recruits following the dismissal of head coach Brian Kelly

The LSU Tigers have a couple of commits that Notre Dame should keep their eyes on.

The firing of LSU head coach Brian Kelly took many off guard this past weekend. Following the team’s second half collapse against the Texas A&M Aggies at home on Saturday night, most probably expected some staff changes to happen. I’m not sure the odds were that Kelly would be involved in that movement, at least right now.

Whenever a head coach is fired, that can leave the potential for some roster overhaul, and I expect that for the Tigers over the next few months. For the 2026 recruiting class, this is really poor timing for the LSU program, with only a couple of months until National Signing Day. You can bet that programs from all over the country are already doing their homework on the class, and trying to flip some commitments.

With where the Notre Dame 2026 class currently sits, there isn’t a ton of room available for head coach Marcus Freeman, and honestly, there aren’t a ton of appealing options currently committed to the Tigers. There are, however, a couple of appealing options that are on the table. Both of them are on the defensive line.

EDGE Trenton Henderson – Pensacola (Fla.) Pine Forest

Notre Dame had a lot of interest in Henderson early on in the process, and the Florida pass rusher did reciprocate the interest, at least initially. At 6-4 and 225 pounds, Henderson is an extremely talented pass rusher with a ton of burst, bend, and closing speed. He’s going to be a hot commodity from now until National Signing Day, and for very good reason. That’s why the five-star was so highly coveted throughout the process.

Pass rushers are always a hot commodity, and the Fighting Irish are no different. Even with Rodney Dunham and Ebenezer Ewetade already in the class, you don’t just say no to a player like Henderson. Perhaps there would be no interest from his side, but you at least need to make the call.

DT Lamar Brown – Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab

Considered by some to be the top overall player in the 2026 by some, Notre Dame had high interest in Brown early on in the process, but on the offensive line. I’d be curious if the Irish staff would at least make some contact with him on the defensive line and see where the interest might lie. The 6-4, 285-pound defender is an elite football player with elite potential on both sides of the football.

Is Brown a legitimate option for Notre Dame? No, but once again, it would be malpractice to not at least see where things stand. One spot that Notre Dame must continue to upgrade is at defensive tackle, and there aren’t any more talented than Brown. Those are really the only two commits I’d have much interest in if I were Notre Dame, so it should be a shorter conversation.
