Notre Dame football predicted to land yet another Fighting Irish legacy who will bring back a lot memories of the Golden Era
Notre Dame football is hoping for some good recruiting news on the horizon, and it could come from a very familiar last name for Fighting Irish fans.
Under head coach Marcus Freeman, Notre Dame football has made it a habit of pursuing players with NFL bloodlines, including several whose fathers played for the Fighting Irish. Currently on the roster are Bryce Young, Jerome Bettis Jr., and James Flanigan, all Irish legacies. Betting on genetics has been a huge push under his regime, and the results have been positive so far.
In the 2027 recruiting class, Notre Dame will once again be pursuing another Fighting Irish legacy, this time with Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic offensive tackle James Halter. His father, Jordan Halter, played offensive line for Notre Dame from 1989 to 93. That means that he saw some of the best football in the program’s history, playing for legendary head coach Lou Holtz.
It appears those Notre Dame ties are very much playing into their favor in the recruitment of Halter, who camped at Irish Invasion this past offseason. He was then offered by offensive line coach Joe Rudolph this September. Things have been moving fast, and it appears the Irish are the team to beat.
Earlier this week, Blue and Gold Illustrated recruiting insider Mike Singer put in a prediction for Halter to land with the Fighting Irish.
James Halter’s recruiting background
The younger Halter is considered a consensus four-star player by all major recruiting platforms. On the 247 Sports Composite ranking, Halter is rated as the No. 125 overall player, the No. 12 offensive tackle, and the No. 6 player from the state of Pennsylvania for the 2027 recruiting class. Depending on who you talk to, the 6-5.5, 270-pound lineman is projected at either offensive tackle or guard on the college level.
The Pittsburgh native has a healthy offer list so far, and one you would expect from a talented Northern offensive lineman. Some of Halter’s top offers so far include the Fighting Irish, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, Auburn, Indiana, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, UNC, NC State, Boston College, Rutgers, West Virginia, and Duke, among several others.
Halter plays right tackle for Central Catholic, and he has enough foot quickness and length to remain outside on the college level. He also boasts a nice frame to add a substantial amount of weight, which should allow him to play inside down the road as well. Rudolph has shown love for versatility on his offensive linemen, which is exactly what Halter would bring if Notre Dame lands him.
