Predicting the next five Notre Dame commitments following the Irish landing legacy OL James Halter over other Midwestern powers

Notre Dame football is about to go on arguably the best recruiting run under head coach Marcus Freeman.

Anderson Raptors defensive back Ace Alston (6) celebrates during their regional championship win over Withrow 49-28 Friday, Nov. 17, 2023.

Notre Dame received some big news on Wednesday when 2027 Pittsburgh (Pa.) Central Catholic offensive lineman James Halter opted for the Fighting Irish over Penn State and Ohio State.  A legacy for the program, the 6-5, 270-pound offensive tackle was one of the extremely talented players who were on campus this past weekend for the rivalry matchup against the USC Trojans. Halter is viewed as a starting point for what could be an incredibly recruiting stretch under head coach Marcus Freeman.

With Halter now on board in the 2027 class, Notre Dame is far from over. Everyone should expect even more good news to follow, and soon, potentially.  For a little bit of fun, I decided to predict the next five commitments that the Irish may gain in the 2027 class. Is there some intel involved here? Certainly, but there are also some educated guesses and understanding about how trends in recruiting typically work.

Here are my predictions.

CB Ace Alston – Cincinnati (Ohio) Anderson

The 5-11, 175-pound cover man is a highly ranked cornerback right in Ohio State’s backyard. Despite that, Notre Dame has asserted itself as the team to beat. Alston is a twitchy and quick defensive back who has the ability to play both on the outside and in the nickel as well. He would be a tremendous addition for secondary coach Mike Mickens to work with.

RB Amir Brown – Rolesville (N.C.) High School

Don’t fear Notre Dame fans. Yes, I still feel very good about Notre Dame’s chances with five-star running back Kemon Spell, but he looks intent on taking some other visits right now. Brown, however, feels like he is a lot closer to making a decision. The North Carolina native is a talented athlete who runs with a low center of gravity. The Irish are the clear leader after last weekend.

CB Xavier Hasan – Raleigh (N.C.) Cardinal Gibbons

Speaking of outstanding North Carolina athletes, Notre Dame has been trending very quickly with Hasan. At 6-0 and 180 pounds, this Top-50 recruit is one of the more gifted cover men in the 2026 class. If Coach Mickens is able to land him, Hasan will have a strong argument as the most physically gifted recruit he has landed. I feel great about where things sit currently.

TE Seneca Driver – Danville (Ky.) Boyle County

Another Notre Dame legacy, Driver is the nephew of former Fighting Irish player Tony Driver. At nearly 6-7 and 235 pounds, Driver is the type of mismatch weapon that can give opposing defenses a headache. The last time the Irish pulled a highly ranked tight end out of Kentucky, it went pretty well. Notre Dame is leading the pack on this one, and I don’t see that changing.

DL Isaac Miller – Waukesha (Wisc.) Catholic Memorial

Miller is the prototype that defensive line coach Al Washington has continued to prioritize, a big defensive end who is going to eventually grow into a defensive tackle in the long term. He moves very well for a player at 6-5 and 250 pounds, and should carry over 290 pounds when all is said and done with relative ease. Miller is also the former teammate of freshman offensive tackle Owen Strebig, which won’t hurt the Irish’s chances.
