Very early in the 2027 recruiting class, Raleigh (N.C.) Rolesville running back Amir Brown was a favorite of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With how well head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish staff have been recruiting the state of North Carolina, as well as the impact we have seen from running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, optimism was very high for their ability to land the star running back.

When Brown committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels back in August, it took some by surprise, and forced Notre Dame to reevaluate their running back board. Even with Brown “off the board”, the Irish staff maintained their relationship with the North Carolina native. He had even scheduled a visit to South Bend for this upcoming weekend against the USC Trojans.

It appears that Brown will head to that visit back on the market. It was announced on Wednesday that the talented runner has backed off his commitment to North Carolina. This now offers the Irish staff

Amir Brown recruiting background

Brown is considered to be a four-star player by a majority of the major recruiting platforms, the lone outlier being 247Sports, which has him as a three-star currently. The Rivals Industry ranking rates Brown as the No. 271 overall player, the No. 20 running back, and the No. 9 player in the state of North Carolina for the 2027 recruiting class.

The 5-10, 205-pound runner had demanded interest from a long list of programs so far in his process, even while he was committed to the Tar Heels. Some of the more impressive offers Brown has earned include the Fighting Irish, Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, Penn State, Florida State, Louisville, UNC, Indiana, Maryland, Boston College, Baylor, UCLA, Virginia, SMU, Stanford, Duke, West Virginia, Virginia Tech, Purdue, and UCF among others.

As a sophomore in 2024, Brown made a ton of plays for the talented Rolesville squad. In 14 games, he rushed for 612 yards and 11 touchdowns while averaging 6.6 yards per carry. Brown also hauled in 15 receptions for 269 yards and two more scores.

In seven games as a junior, Brown has been even better. He has managed to rush for 802 yards and 11 touchdowns, averaging 7.9 yards per carry. The North Carolina native has also made six receptions for 49 yards and another score. Along with fellow Irish wide receiver target Anthony Roberts, Rolesville has two of the more dynamic offensive weapons in their area.
